The Leaf Picker

Green leaves hanging upon a strong twig high up on a tree branch.
Dancing nonchalantly as the sunlight pierce through.
Slowly turning brown as time goes by.
It became crisp, let go of the twig, and silently tumbled down.
The leaves have rested on the ground, turned into a golden brown.
Then comes the leaf picker who picks it up and placed it on her palm.
Thinking whether to burn them or leave them to rot naturally on the ground.

As the leaf picker thinks, the wind starts to blow

A leaf that once rested peacefully on her palm, now quietly go.

Life must go on, so it seems and more began to fall

But the leaf picker ran and tried to catch hold of them all.

Never want to miss it again, she holds one dearly on her little hand.

Staring at it adoringly, telling her it would no longer fly.

Like a saver she will always be, a leaf picker she dreamed to be.

The poem is originally written. It represents my true nature. Someone who will pick herself up every time she falls. Someone who would love to pick creative ideas and share them with the world. Someone who loves to pick hope, wisdom, courage, beauty, and strength and uses these on life experiences. That leaf-picker who has finally picked the special leaf of her life which she would make a tune of. A tune of love she would always listen to, she would dance to and a tune that will last forever.

Insights. Thoughts. Perspective.

Every leaf brings a strong message either from the familiar or unseen world. Each teaches us lessons. Leaf symbolizes hope, a new beginning, wisdom, beauty, courage, and strength. Each color represents vibrancy. The wind blows them with a gentle kiss of encouragement and inspiration. When the leaves let go of the tree, the branch of life releases them with joy--- grateful for the purpose it had given and will continue to give as they never stop serving. Rotten leaves will try to give life so the new ones, bloom. Leaves may cling tenaciously at times, afraid of change but they know progress is needed and so they will eventually let go and fall on the ground. They grow old but they are full of light and color on their last days. In every fallen leaf there is sorrow but in every sorrow, there is also beauty. New leaves grow, new life begins. And that’s how nature speaks.

Leaves are also like ideas. They are everywhere at any given time. They flourish and give life. Their crispness is like a sharp mind; the older the leaf gets the greater wisdom they give. A single leaf holds a multitude of insights, experiences, and truth. They dance with the wind and let it carry them away. Not minding where the wind takes them or where they will fall. Fallen leaves are extraordinarily memorable. As Amit Ray says, fallen leaves on the ground are the golden song of immortal creativity.

Leaves unfolded many realities of life be it fresh, fallen, or dried. The cycle of its life tells us to know who we are and to focus on finding our core strengths--- groom them but still keep the good qualities. It teaches us that there is beauty at every stage of life and that change is inevitable. We need to embrace the change, adapt to it, and grow. Change makes us learn many things, it becomes our coach as we go on with life and experiences. There's a beauty when it's new and there's also beauty when it turns brown gold or red. Just like every human being. God appreciates variety, so he created each person to be unique. We are like leaves, we are all different in sizes, shapes, and colors but we all have our beauty within.

Another life lesson it teaches us is the art of letting go and trusting the natural process. Life is a series of natural and spontaneous changes. We have to grow and continue to evolve into better human beings in every way possible. This would allow us to sprout new ideas, constantly update our knowledge and improve our skills. On the same line, like the leaves that drop from the trees, they can serve as the foundation for new growth and fuel for renewal. A leaf holds on to the tree until the time it has to let go. Remember that it's not a loss but a renewal; not a departure but a fresh start. It is like ideas, some we have to let go of if we think it’s no longer working and be able to make a room for new ones. We can also compare it with the negative things that are happening in our lives. We have to let go of the things that we think are holding us from progressing. Imagine you are a leaf falling off a tree, the wind picks you up and carries you. Like an array of colors and a beautiful sight to witness, you drift from place to place. From the safety of the tree and its branches to the free-fall of the wind and the sky, you twirl up and down. And then you finally land. You writhed, wither, wrinkle, dry, and die but it’s not for nothing. Life continues. Even in death. After we fall to the ground in death we continue to touch others through the good things we did when we are still alive, through the memories we made, and through the love, we give to the people around us. We continue to live on as we join with our creator in the eternal celebration of life.
